The Europeans in the colonial era who landed on the shores of what is now the United States were often fleeing religious persecution. Many of the founding fathers may have considered themselves Christian, but what each meant by that was undoubtedly very different.
Whose version of Christianity will prevail if religion is allowed to continue encroaching into our public spaces? And what do you do about the very real faith of those who believe differently, even other Christians? Those who spirituality is life-giving to them and benefits others?
I suggest we follow the sentiment of the Golden Rule (paraphrased for this discussion):
If you don’t want other people’s religious beliefs forced on you, then don’t force your beliefs on others.
Treat others as you wish to be treated.
All spiritual beliefs are welcome in my rose-colored world.
