Ooof...this one hit a bit close to home but is an important reminder. I've worked in an advocacy field my entire adult life and I've recently stepped back from it all, undoubtedly disappointing some (especially retirees who are volunteering their time). I was just so burnt out, and discouraged. I know this is a temporary break and I'll be redirecting my energy in a new (and hopefully helpful) way in the fall. But right now I've got nothing to give. I'm hoping to recharge over the summer. This essay is a good reminder I can stay a little bit engaged.

There's a mantra I've lived with for about 30 years: if I continue to do (or start to do) something I don't feel called to do, I'm actually enabling the person who is called to do it from stepping up. You listened to your body and your soul in stepping back; that was the perfect thing to do.

Ooooh, I thought of something else. While you're rejuvenating over the summer, think about the ripples you may have already made - the positive energy you've put into the world. Let yourself know that being in integrity with yourself brings the best possible outcomes. If you haven't already, listen to this episode that may help you see/feel/sense your ripples:

Also, I JUST finished Ursula LeGuin's The Lathe of Heaven, so I'm looking forward to listening to that talk.

Thank you for this! And I've seen the truth of what happens when I make space for someone else when I'm no longer fully engaged in what I'm doing. Remembering the ripples is important.
